It’s almost the weekend, and if you’re thinking about buying yourself a little something, look no further. MAC’s Capricious lipstick, shown above in all its girly glory has very quickly become my favourite pink.
I have a very small MAC lipstick collection (compared to the average blogger), but I do love lipsticks and lip colour in general. In fact, they’re probably my favourite make-up product category. I love that the right colour can make you feel instantly dressed up and ready to take on whatever the day throws at you. If I leave the house without my pressed powder, I’d be a little shiny by noon, sure, but I’ll live. Leave the house without my lipstick though and I start to debate whether being on time is worth my lips not surviving that salad with extra dressing I’m going to have later.
Anyway, enough rambling, because I could definitely go on all day. Let’s get to the review!
MAC Capricious is everything I want in an everyday pink. It is not too bright, but not dull in the least. It has a slight blue undertone that will make your teeth look whiter. You could wear it to work or a coffee date and it wouldn’t distract from either.
Pretty, romantic and more than a little fun, it is the kind of colour that can work in spring, summer or the depths of winter and feel right at home every time.
You can see in the photo above how it compares to being in the bullet versus on my lips. This is just one coat of the stuff, so you can definitely build it up if you want a stronger colour. It won’t double the impact, but will get noticeably more opaque. I’m actually quite surprised at how it looks more like a plum than a pink before you put it on.
Finish and longevity
This is a Lustre lipstick, which means it has a semi-glossy finish and won’t hang around all day. That salad with the dressing? It will take it right off and you will need to reapply. Having said that though, I was pleasantly surprised that it wore off evenly and naturally.
I’m sure you have concluded by this point that I am a huge fan of this shade. As someone who has medium skin with a slight golden undertone, it can be quite challenging to find the right shade of pink. Most are way too cool toned, and end up making me look washed out. This one, though, is just right. I’ve only had it two weeks and I’ve probably reached for it more than any other colour during this time. If you find yourself near a MAC counter, give it a try. It might turn out to be your perfect pink, too.
Have you tried Capricious? Do you have any other lipstick recommendations for me? Let me know in the comments!
